Blended Course - Online & Practical

We’re thrilled to be joining you on your journey into Animal Assisted Interventions.

We will take a deep dive using proven methods of positive reinforcement that will nurture your dog’s true ability, without using aversive punishment techniques. We will help you to build a bond with your dog, which is based on mutual respect and appreciation of the work they will join you in. We will show you how to train your dog, using hand signals, which we believe is optimal in working with trauma clients, whether they are young children or adults.

This Course will provide theoretical and practical components. It will allow participants "real life" training with their dogs. The theory component is completed online through this website and the practical component is 4 days at our facility in Benalla.

The practical component will include visits to shops, street training, cafés, vet clinics, and schools and aged care facilities, to help you see how your dog will work, and how we can improve our dogs and ourselves as handlers. And most importantly to give you and your dog the confidence to continue on your path to success in AAI

It will cover the following topics:

  • Dog Training and Behaviour
  • Zoonotic Diseases
  • Consent
  • Insurance
  • Stress levels in dogs
  • How to integrate the dog in the workplace
  • Working therapeutically with your dog.
  • The difference between AAT-AAA- and AAE
  • When to remove your dog
  • And much more

Our courses are open to all professions who have a suitable dog to train with. (Dogs must be over 12 months to begin the practical or online course)

By continuing you understand that:

  • You are over 18 years old
  • Practicals are based in Benalla.
  • Accounts MUST be paid 7 days prior to the course.
  • Should the course be cancelled for any reason the deposit will be reimbursed fully.
  • My dog is at least 12 months old and udner 10 years old, fully vaccinated, wormed and flea treatment up to date
  • That I will need to renew my certification yearly in person at $250
  • My dog has been desexed

Dogs 12 months to 17 months can achieve a learner jacket, and learner certificate, this is because they are not fully developed until a minimum of 18 months. They can still attend workplaces with permission but will be "in training" until old enough.

Dogs 18 months and over can achieve full Therapy Dog Jacket and Certificate once they have passed the assessment.
